Recent estimates place the uncontrolled Carpenter 1 Fire at 6,000 to 8,000 acres. Approximately 500 evacuations have occurred on the mountain while hundreds of fire fighters battle the blaze. Evacuated areas include Trout Canyon, Kyle Canyon and Lee Canyon.<\/p>\n

The fire started by lightning on the Pahrump side of Mount Charleston on Monday, but shifted towards the Kyle and Lee Canyon side of the mountain. One Mount Charleston fire fighter stated she saw flames in excess of 200 feet cresting the peak of Kyle Canyon.<\/p>\n

Air crews are dumping water and retardant on the fire while trying to gain control of the fire. The Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort has a large water reservoir that they use for creating snow in the winter. The helicopter air crews are currently using that water to suppress the fire.<\/p>\n

Hotshot fire crews are being brought in from California, Utah and other parts of Nevada.
\nBLM has reported no injuries or damaged structures at the current time. The American Red Cross has set up evacuation centers for residents effected by the fire. More information can be had by calling the BLM information line at 702-515-5105.<\/p>\n

State Routes 156 and 157, which are the only roads into and out of Mount Charleston, are currently closed for traffic.<\/p>\n

The air quality in Clark County has been negatively affected, not only from the fire but also from the holiday fireworks. The Department of Air Quality has issued a hazardous air advisory through Friday.<\/p>\n
