The Carpenter Canyon Fire, also known as the Carpenter One Fire, started on Monday and continues to burn. Despite all of the work to extinguish it, there is still no containment. Sources state the fire started from lightning and has consumed over 1,000 acres.
On Thursday, mandatory evacuations were put in place for Trout Canyon which later lead to Kyle Canyon being evacuated. Residents and campers alike were forced to head off the mountain. Later that evening, Las Vegas Metro Police evacuated the Lee Canyon side of the mountain. All roads to Mt. Charleston are closed to traffic at the present time.
The American Red Cross will be opening evacuation centers in Pahrump at Hafen Elementary School for Pahrump residents and at Bilbray Elementary School for Mt. Charleston residents.
The Bureau of Land Management originally stated the fire consumed close to 2,000 acres, but recent estimates on the size of the fire are around 1,250 acres.
Thunderstorms and wind on Thursday cancelled the attempt of a controlled burn. If the wind increases to 45mph, air support for the fire will forced to stop as well.
BLM has set up a public information phone number at 702-515-5105 which gives information about the fire and the Red Cross evacuation centers.
