UPDATE: Large Fire on Mount Charleston

The U.S. Forest Service has reported that the fire in Carpenter Canyon on the Pahrump side of Mount Charleston has increased in size to around 1,800 acres.  At this time the fire is not considered to be contained.

Currently four engines, a helicopter and an air tanker dropping retardant are being used.  The Forest Service plans to replace the crews currently fighting the fire with a new crew on Thursday.

Although the nearest town of Trout Canyon is about two miles away, no structures are threatened at this time.

At the present time, the American Red Cross is preparing volunteers and supplies in case the fire grows to a point which requires a shelter to be opened.
