New Rules for Trapping at Mt. Charleston

For the first time in Southern Nevada history, new regulations have been placed on trappers, restricting them from placing certain traps too close to hiking trails on Mount Charleston.

It started after a few pet owners found their dogs, with their legs caught in a trap.

After petitioning the trapping regulation committee, a new ordinance was put in place preventing these types of leg hold traps from being used within 1,000 feet of the designated trails, and a 1/2 mile from residential areas.

The ordinance does not affect cage or box style traps, which are still allowed to be used anywhere.

The Nevada Trappers Association who said they were happy to have reached a compromise on this issue.

Another Marijuana Bust from Mount Charleston

A task force this week removed nearly 4,000 marijuana plants with an estimated value of $7.4 million from Mount Charleston, Las Vegas police said Thursday.

The raid occurred Tuesday morning in rugged terrain about three miles northwest of the intersection of state Route 156 and state Route 158, police said.

A citizen’s tip sparked the raid. No suspects were around during the raid, police said.

Police said Tuesday’s raid was the fifth outdoor grow house found in Clark County this year.

The task force, called Southern Nevada HIDTA, has removed 36,000 plants worth an estimated value of $72 million in 2012, police said.

Authorities Find More Marijuana on Mt. Charleston

On Thursday Sep. 13, a drug task force removed 533 mature marijuana plants hidden in the forest of Mt. Charleston.  The bust was valued at over $500,000 and was located about 20 miles north of State Route 159. This was the third outdoor marijuana grow that was found in Clark County this year.

The task force which is composed of members from Metro, North Las Vegas, DEA, USFS, and BLM found the grow after receiving reports of suspicious activity in the area.  Using a helicopter, they airlifted the marijuana out of the area.

Although no suspects were present, numerous people were seen fleeing on foot as the task force approached.  Future arrests may be eminent as the officers recovered a fair amount of evidence.
